Tile Shower Installation
Tiled showers and bathrooms are one of our specialties. A brand new shower can completely change the whole look of your bathroom.
The work done before the tile installation starts needs to be precise and effective to ensure any water that makes it past the tile and grout is appropriately drains and does not end up going into your walls and sub-floor. This can cause major damage to your home and give you a huge headache that could easily be prevented. Unfortunately, most people believe tile and grout on its own are waterproof. However, that is not the case. If crucial steps are skipped during the preparation of the shower and waterproofing, you could find yourself with a leaking shower.
Unfortunately, too many of our clients call us after they start to notice excessive mildew growing on their grout joints, or when they see damage to the sheetrock or baseboard directly next to their new shower. This is often the direct result of a shower that was not properly prepared for tile installation. Unfortunately, if you can see water damage from a leaking shower, in most cases the only fix is a complete shower remodel. Sometimes, it can take years for a leaky shower to show itself on the surface. Meanwhile behind the surface, the damage is already growing inside of the walls.
Thankfully, are multiple acceptable and TCNA (Tile Council of North America) approved ways to properly prepare a shower for tile installation. We are familiar with all the approved methods depending on your tile choice, location, and budget. We prefer to use time tested and TCNA approved methods for shower tile installation and waterproofing because that’s what works.
When considering a large investment such as a tiled shower, we urge you to take your time when choosing both the tile itself and the contractor you will hire. Here are some things you might want to think about.
- Does the contractor specialize in tile shower installations?
- Does the contractor offer a warranty on the work?
- What materials are being used for the waterproofing of the substrate?
- Does the manufacturer of the installation products offer a warranty?
- Will a Flood Test be performed on the shower pan?
